Non-woven fabric is stiff enough to stack two or three high without the lower bin buckling, and light enough that a full one comes down from a wardrobe shelf with one hand. The shape is deliberately squared off rather than tapered, so bins sit flush against each other and against a wall with no wasted gaps between them. They fold flat when empty rather than occupying the space they were bought to reclaim.
